Cleveland Clinic Partners to Expand Affordable Surgeries

Cleveland Clinic announced a strategic collaboration with Regent Surgical to expand ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) across the United States. This partnership aims to leverage Cleveland Clinic’s esteemed clinical expertise to provide affordable outpatient procedures, benefiting insurers and patients alike. By becoming the majority owner in future joint ventures, Cleveland Clinic ensures its branding is prominently featured in the development of new ASCs.

ASCs provide cost-effective surgical options compared to traditional hospital settings, where fees can be significantly higher due to hospital overheads. Procedures at ASCs offer substantial savings for Medicare and private insurers, as well as reducing out-of-pocket costs for patients. This aligns with the growing trend of the ASC market, which is projected to reach $60.8 billion by 2030, fueled by technological advancements and heightened efficiency.

Currently operating ASCs in 13 states, Regent Surgical partners with a variety of health systems and anticipates notable growth, particularly in orthopedics. Dr. Tom Mihaljevic, CEO of Cleveland Clinic, emphasizes that this partnership will not only expand surgical accessibility but also enhance service delivery efficiency. The collaboration underscores an ongoing shift towards more economically sustainable healthcare solutions as the demand for outpatient surgical procedures continues to grow. The joint effort supports a vision of extending quality care accessible to a broader patient base while addressing economic challenges in healthcare.
