Hamilton Breaks Ground on Reactivation Care Centre, Gains $16M Boost

August 13, 2024

In an important milestone for healthcare infrastructure, Hamilton, Ontario has begun construction on the new Reactivation Care Centre, signaling a major collaboration between Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS), St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH), and St. Joseph’s Villa. The project has received a substantial $16 million investment from the Ontario government, reflecting the significance of the facility in the region’s healthcare system. The goal of the center is to provide restorative and specialty care to patients who no longer require hospital-level care but still need medical attention. This initiative is expected to significantly relieve the strain on hospital capacities, enabling healthcare providers to allocate resources more efficiently and improve patient access to care.

Once operational, the Reactivation Care Centre will span an impressive 28,000 square feet, housing 57 transitional care beds across three units dedicated to complex care, dementia services, and behavioral support. In addition, the facility will feature four specialized rooms designed for onsite hemodialysis treatment, providing essential dialysis services within the same location. Tracey MacArthur, President and CEO of HHS, emphasized that the new center would enhance healthcare accessibility and operational efficiency in the region. This development marks a broader trend toward integrated and community-based healthcare solutions, where care is delivered in the most appropriate settings for patient needs.
