Congress Moving to Shore Up Insurance Markets

It was just a standard congressional committee statement: “This committee will hold hearings beginning the week of September 4th on the actions Congress should take to stabilize and strengthen the individual health insurance market so that Americans will be able to buy insurance at affordable prices in the year 2018.”

But that joint statement Tuesday from senators Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.), the chairman and ranking member, respectively, of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, was met with great interest on Capitol Hill and elsewhere, with many media outlets running stories about the announcement.
