When Your Primary Care Physician Breaks Up With You

My primary care physician announced that he will be changing to a “concierge” practice, requiring my wife and me to pay $2,000 each per year in exchange for his caring for fewer patients and, therefore, being more available to us. If we choose not to pay, he will no longer serve as our primary care physician. He is quite literally breaking up with us.

My wife and I have gone to the same primary care physician for over 20 years. We’ve relied heavily on his medical expertise, advice, and counsel. In addition to treating us when needed, he also served as the informational hub through all our diseases, injuries, and illnesses, exactly what we believe a primary care physician should do.
