Five obesity-related single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) were linked with reductions in body weight or BMI in children on a lifestyle intervention for overweight and obesity, according to a genome-wide association study.
Of 1,429 adolescents participating in a lifestyle intervention, those carrying obesity risk alleles, rs7164727 on gene LOC100287559 and rs12940622 on gene RPTOR lost significantly less weight than homozygous participants without the risk allele, reported Melanie Heitkamp, PhD, of the Technical University of Munich, and colleagues.
