A pandemic which has affected more than three and a half million people worldwide and killed more than a quarter of a million (and the death toll grows daily) is a good opportunity to rethink healthcare as we know it.
Let’s be logical: a health system we only use when we are already sick and showing symptoms not only means more suffering for those affected, but costs more, whether it’s coronavirus or any other disease.
Widespread use of telemedicine would be one way to learn from recent experience. Despite growing interest, its potential contribution to healthcare and medical research has not been fully explored.
