Anthem is beginning to benefit financially from its decision to exit certain individual markets under the Affordable Care Act as the insurer focuses more on its growing Medicare Advantage business.
Under chief executive Gail Boudreaux, the company plans to invest more in its Medicare Advantage business, completing acquisitions of two health plans in Florida that she said will help the company reach 900,000 MA members by the end of the year. Boudreaux replaced Joe Swedish as CEO last fall of Anthem, which operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in 14 states.
