Coronavirus cases have been skyrocketing across the United States in recent weeks and the number of new infections surpassed 140,000 on Wednesday, an all-time high. The spread of the virus is putting increasing pressure on the U.S. healthcare system and the number of people hospitalized with the disease topped 60,000 for the first time earlier this week. That’s according to data from The COVID Tracking Project who stated that the number of people in hospital is 40% more than it was two weeks ago. Hospitals in some parts of the country are coming dangerously close to breaking point as they struggle to deal with a surge of patients.
