Survey highlights the need to better educate people on risk factors of type 2 diabetes

Merck, a leading science and technology company, today released the results of research that has shown a lack of knowledge about the risk factors associated with type 2 diabetes internationally. More than half (56%) of the respondents are not aware the condition may be preventable and 41% are unaware of the steps that can be taken to prevent or delay the development of the condition. Over 450 million people worldwide are currently living with diabetes and it is believed that one in two are undiagnosed. The majority of these cases are type 2 diabetes, which can be prevented or delayed through a number of lifestyle factors and medication. The results of this survey demonstrate a great unmet need for education on preventing or delaying type 2 diabetes.
