As cases of the novel coronavirus continue to soar around the globe with no cure yet available, efforts continue to develop a protective coronavirus vaccine.
While unlikely to be completed within the coming months, and therefore unlikely to be helpful during this current wave of infection, a successful vaccine could theoretically protect humans from re-infection if Covid-19 turns out to be seasonal (that is, if the virus re-surfaces in humans again next winter). Multiple labs around the world are ramping up efforts to develop a vaccine against Covid-19; among those that have had initial success are Moderna Inc and Inovio Pharmaceuticals.
